The all-day community school in Neunkirchen aims to work with children and young people to raise awareness of the environment and the importance of treating nature and natural resources responsibly.
For this reason, education for sustainable development (ESD) has become a central theme of the educational concept at GGS Neunkirchen. At the end of the school year, the school was recognized by the Ministry for the Environment and Nature for its commitment and educational work as a "School of Sustainability".
The proWIN pro nature foundation supports the all-day community school in Neunkirchen with the "Forest Lessons" project. Here, forest classes work together with experts such as wilderness educators, a beekeeper and an artist in the forest to implement special topics in an educational context and the school day in a nearby school forest. The "Forest School" project is a concept that is virtually unheard of in this form in the German education landscape and has now attracted attention beyond the school itself.
