Animal shelter Sedelsberg
This year, we supported the Sedelsberg animal shelter, run by the Friesoythe and surrounding area animal welfare association, with a grant of EUR 2,000.
The animal shelter does important work in the district of Cloppenburg and looks after around 450 cats, dogs and small animals every year. In addition, the team looks after feral domestic cats, which are caught, neutered and released at feeding stations in a controlled manner. This measure prevents uncontrolled reproduction and helps animals that cannot get used to life in human care.
A team in action for animal welfare
The Sedelsberg animal shelter is responsible for 13 municipalities in the district and offers special programs for animals with special needs in addition to the care and placement of pets. Particularly impressive is their commitment to dogs with "special effects", which are introduced to a life with humans in order to give them the chance of a successful placement. An almost blind dog and a paralyzed dog have already been placed in loving hands.
The dedicated team of 10 employees, 2 trainees, a federal volunteer and numerous volunteers work seven days a week to provide the animals with a species-appropriate and animal-friendly life until they are placed. This work would not be possible without support.

Inspiring the next generation for animal welfare
The animal shelter also attaches great importance to getting the next generation interested in animal welfare. Youth work is constantly being expanded in order to sensitize children and young people to animal welfare and the responsible treatment of animals.
Support for the future
The animal welfare organization is facing major challenges. In addition to the daily care of the animals, the demands of climate change are increasing: cats are now shedding up to four times a year, which increases the pressure on the shelter. Despite full waiting lists and intensive care of the animals, the team works tirelessly.
We are delighted to be able to contribute to the continuation of these important tasks with our support. The funding helps the animal shelter to cover the running costs for the care and accommodation of the animals and to expand its youth work.
