Romania is probably home to the largest number of lynx in Europe and Eastern Transylvania also provides suitable habitat for these majestic animals. Although they are strictly protected by law, lynx are under pressure from a variety of human activities, such as changes in land use. At the same time, however, there has been a lack of knowledge about the exact distribution of the animals, which is necessary for the establishment of measures to protect the lynx and develop sustainable land use concepts.
For this reason, as part of the Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz (AGA) e.V. project, monitoring is being carried out using camera traps and, based on the data, the distribution of lynx in Eastern Transylvania is being modeled as a function of various influencing factors. The project is intended both to promote Romanian research on the lynx and to contribute to raising awareness of the lynx and its habitats in Eastern Transylvania in order to create a basis for its protection in line with sustainable land and resource use.
The proWIN pro nature Foundation has already supported the project in April 2022 and will donate again in May 2023 to continue supporting the project.
