Review of the Reden Experience Days 2024: A festival for the whole family
On 7 and 8 September 2024, the Reden Experience Days took place on the impressive slag heap plateau in the Reden adventure village. For the third time in a row, the area was transformed into a lively venue for experiencing nature. Around 1,300 visitors came together on both days to experience a weekend full of exciting activities, fascinating nature stations and family-friendly entertainment. The event, which was organised by the Reden Adventure Site Association and the proWIN pro nature Foundation, was once again a complete success this year.
A varied programme for young and old
In perfect weather, visitors were able to immerse themselves in nature on both days and learn more about the local flora and fauna at numerous hands-on stations. The bee mobile, which provided exciting insights into the world of bees and honey production, was particularly popular. Another highlight was the falconry, which presented various species of birds of prey - an experience that not only impressed the little ones.
The premiere of the MeerMobil by marine biologist and author Dr Frauke Bagusche also caused quite a stir. With the help of virtual reality goggles, visitors were able to take spectacular dives into the underwater world and experience at first hand how diverse and fascinating the oceans of our planet are. This innovative way of experiencing nature was a particular highlight of the event.
A paradise for children
The Reden Experience Days also offered a wealth of creative and educational activities for the youngest guests. Together with Agnes Schmal, the tour guide from the Finkenrech leisure centre, nature conservation officer Stefan Kees and nature artist Rebekka Abdul Zuhra Katte, children were able to create ‘slag heap art’ from natural materials. The popular children's face painting turned the young guests into colourful mythical creatures, while they were able to put their archery skills to the test at the ‘Bow Factory’.
NABU Schiffweiler offered another highlight for visitors interested in nature with a wild herb tour and stations on the topic of animal tracks and the ecological footprint. Nature educator Jan Penth also provided information about the fascinating life of ants and their important role in the ecosystem.
Diverse wildlife and culinary delights
Saarbrücken Zoo was also represented with a stand and presented the diversity of animals in their special habitats. Children were able to try out age-appropriate games and activities while learning about animal conservation through play. For the first time, two cuddly donkeys were also present at the Reden Experience Days and were happy to be stroked. In this way, children were able to experience the diversity of the animal world not only on paper, but also up close.
The AlmFood kiosk catered for visitors' physical well-being, offering small delicacies and drinks. From the beer garden, visitors enjoyed the marvellous view of the Reden adventure site and the surrounding landscape. The Alm Shuttle was available on both days for convenient travel to and from the Halden plateau.
A successful event with a view to the future
The Reden Experience Days 2024 showed how important and inspiring nature experiences can be for all age groups. The mix of entertaining and educational activities made the event an unforgettable experience for the whole family. The proWIN pro nature Foundation is delighted that the event was once again so well received and would like to thank all partners and visitors for their support and participation.
We look forward to continuing to advocate the preservation and appreciation of nature in the future and to raising awareness of our environment through events such as the Reden Experience Days.
