Network meeting 2024
The ‘School of Sustainability’ specialist and networking event took place for the third time on 12 January 2024. The venue was the Congresshalle Saarbrücken.
Under the motto ‘Together we are strong - cooperation and self-efficacy’, the event provided impetus for cooperation between schools and non-school partners. The event is characterised by the idea of action, which once again took centre stage on this day: as part of the active ‘Market of Opportunities’ format, participants were able to directly combine theory and practice and exchange information about the development and progress of their projects.
Benjamin Kiehn, Coordinator of the proWIN pro natutre Foundation: ‘We are proud to have been involved in the “School of Sustainability” project from the very beginning and to see it grow and flourish from year to year. It is important to us to have co-organised this remarkable networking event with our proWIN Foundation once again and to be part of this great initiative in Saarland as a whole’.
The following institutions are involved as partners in the ‘School of Sustainability’ project to promote the sustainable development of schools in Saarland:
- Ministry of Education and Culture (Saarland)
- Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection
- Netzwerk Entwicklungspolitik im Saarland e.V.
- Naturschutzbund Saarland e. V. - NABU und NAJU
- proWIN pro nature Foundation
As part of the event, the doctor of physics Prof Dr Ranga Yogeshwar gave an inspiring keynote speech followed by a panel discussion at the Congresshalle Saarbrücken at the invitation of the proWIN pro nature Foundation. Prof Dr Yogeshwar, who has been working as a science journalist and author since 2008, took the audience on a journey into the world of his grandson Emil and gave those present a glimpse into the future: from climate change to dwindling biodiversity, from resource consumption to consumer-driven actions, a rethink towards greater sustainability is beginning. The well-known physicist, bestselling author and presenter then gave two pupils from schools participating in the project a chance to have their say and discussed the audience's questions about a sustainable future world with them and State Secretary for the Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection Sebastian Thul and Benjamin Kiehn, Coordinator of the proWIN pro nature Foundation.
