H2O - Water as the basis of life

Lecture: H2O - Water as the basis of life Speakers: Dr Bettina Wurche and Daniel Wiersbowsky
On Thursday 20 July from 6 p.m., everything will revolve around the topic of water - as a habitat and as a source of life.

Dr Bettina Wurche will kick things off with her lecture "Octopuses & squids - from sea monsters to likeable creatures with three hearts". The renowned marine biologist will take visitors into the deep sea. Most species of octopus and squid live in this unreal environment. For a long time almost inaccessible to research and science, new technologies such as unmanned diving drones mean that more and more secrets from the lives of these fascinating creatures can be explored. The lecture presents the latest research findings from the deep sea and aquariums, naturally with plenty of fun facts and even cross-references to science fiction.

The second lecture is about water as a thirst quencher, without which there would be no life on land. We all know that clean drinking water is a basic need. BlueFuture Project has set itself the task of supporting people in regions where access to this valuable commodity cannot be taken for granted. In his presentation, Daniel Wiersbowsky explains the project's holistic and partnership-based value-adding approach and uses concrete examples to show how this has already achieved great success in a short space of time.
